Rod Holt trained at Rochdale College of Art and at the University of Northumbria. Since 2004, he has been working full-time as an artist. His work has evolved over time and recent pieces are inspired and invigorated by the wildness and uncompromising nature of the Dark Peak landscape. Rod has incorporated his experiences of fell running around his home in Glossop, Derbyshire into some of the pictures.
However, his art also encompasses other themes (which you can explore via the gallery). Perspective is a key element of composition: Rod loves to find an unusual or unexpected point of view, which allows the richness and delicate intricacy of the foreground to shine through. Whilst there is photographic quality to his work, the fine detail arises from the perfection of a technique combining ballpoint pen with watercolour pencil and the whole scene is brought into focus with equal depth and clarity.
Over the Spring Bank Holiday (24th, 25th and 26th May), you can see Rod's artwork at his house. This is part of Derbyshire Open Arts 08. Click here for more details.
Rod is currently working on an artistic retrospective of a cycle tour around France. Bringing together recollection and images from the past, 'Journey' will unfold on this website over the coming months.
The original artwork for 'Winter Rocks' is available, as well as high quality art cards.
