Coming upon a closed door
Barnacled with stone, carved with ornate bosses
Blank wooden eyes seem to return my glance.
A whisper of something tantalizing seeps
through the vacant 'O' of the keyhole,
a subtle hint of what may lie behind.

I hesitate but the door remains untried
and I pass on down the sunlit street.
