Canals are weird. They seem inert, even stagnant yet there is a continuous barely discernible flow bringing the boats and barges from one place to another. After they pass and the eddies die away to a millpond stillness, a reflection of the tree-lined bank appears.

Does the reflective surface show the way forward? The next step may be decisive and the water in it's steady onwards drift to the next town, mirrors the journey.

The creation of the picture joins the past with the present as clearly as the canal between it's broad banks.
